Paulo H. Acioli Ph.D.
Professor of Physics
College of Arts and Sciences
Expertise
Atomic and molecular, condensed matter and cluster physics.
Research Interests
Dr. Acioli's research interests are in the areas of theoretical (computational) condensed matter, atomic and molecular, and cluster physics. In detail I am interested in the report of electronic correlation in many-electron systems, the study of vibrations and rotations of molecules and the understanding of the electronic and magnetic properties of minor systems such as nano-clusters. These investigations are done using ab-initio density functional theory and quantum Monte Carlo methods.

Research Interests
As a painter, I use animals and theatrical settings to explore different aspects of human relationships with both gravity and levity. Many of my current paintings accost the difficulties of loss, and the resulting tension, conflict and reinvention through which our relationships must go. Inspired by both real life and my experiences in alive theater, my cast of anthropomorphic creatures experiences moments of absurdity and clumsiness, too as tenderness and alleviation. I am peculiarly drawn to the juxtaposition of love and loss, and the human relationship of one-act and tragedy.

Groundwork
In my work I investigate the connection between language and guild from various aspects. Equally language is an intrinsic part of our lives, language and society are tightly interconnected. Our linguistic communication use and our attitudes towards different language varieties, whether we look at dialects of the same language, or different languages, reflect power dynamics connected to social class, gender, ethnicity, age, and beyond. I am interested in how minority languages and dialects are affected past more than prestigious dominant languages, and I pay special attention to the factors that lead to successful language maintenance. I enjoy doing fieldwork, talking to minority language speakers, learning more about their connection to their female parent tongue, and collecting data through interviews.
I likewise enjoy bringing some of the techniques I apply in the field to my classroom and showing students how to comport linguistic research by investigating the language used around them. The virtually rewarding office of my didactics is existence able to systematically show students that all languages are equally valid. Through this, I hope to empower my students to embrace their ain language variety and the linguistic multifariousness that is role of our order.
